Lewisham People's Day Folk Stage

The Magpie's Nest, in association with Continental Drifts and EFDSS present the Global Local Village Green at Lewisham People's Day.

The Magpie's Nest is curating a folk and acoustic stage at Lewisham People's Day, the largest and longest running free community festival in South East London. We have a cracking line up of top notch acts, not only representing our mantra New Folk Old Folk No Folk, but also crossing continents and representing traditional/indigenous music from the myriad of diasporas present in Lewisham: English, Irish, America, Baltic, African....These acts are supported by the Art's Council via the Global Local scheme - dedicated to funding up and coming London acts to play on stages at London community events.

Gracing the stage will be some of the biggest and best bands we've worked with at The Magpie's Nest - a selection of acts best suited in a festival setting.

We are not only scheduling bands for a stage, but working closely with Lewisham Arts Service in organising a themed area supporting local campaign groups, traders and businesses. The Village Green will see the traditionally British concept of a village fete revamped and re-explored. Features incluce the Cake and Ale Inn - smallscale brewed Ales and Organic Ciders, Farmhouse cakes and fairtrade tea and coffee. The outdoor Dance Stage, with performance and workshops from Tamil Dancers, Sword Dancers, Irish Dancers and more! The EFDSS Maypole classes and demonstations, local suppliers of different regional foods, and a large presence of campaign groups and organisations based in Lewisham.

It's sure to be an engaging, artistically stimulating and entertaining day out.
